The Football Association of Sarawak (FAS) official page has announced that several non-Sarawakians have started joining the training sessions, as well as trials for the Crocs.
According to their official Facebook page, two former Kedah players, Mohd Sabree Mat Abu and Muhd Muzamir Abdul Hadi are now in Kuching, and had joined the training yesterday.
Mohd Sabree Mat Abu is a 30-year-old defender who once played with the Malaysian national team, while Muhd Muzamir is believed to be Kedah’s former captain of their Piala Presiden team.
Also reported to be with the team at Padang C is Sarawak experienced winger, Ramesh Lai, who is still hoping he can be retained as a player at Stadium Negeri, despite FAS’ announcement that they would be going ‘all local’ next season.
The influx of non-Sarawakian players to training is believed to have happened after there was a realisation that there isn’t enough pool of talent at the moment, if the Crocs were to be competitive in the Liga Premier next season. The lack of talent was likely made more evident after FAS started working with Ian Gallin who is now the new head coach and technical director of the team.
That said, it is also believed that the Crocs will end up signing a few local imports following the departure of several key youngsters such as Tommy Mawat, Shreem Tambi, Nur Shamie and Rodney Celvin from the team at the end of their contracts.
It is also our firm believe that FAS would also eventually sign a few foreign import players as they would want to remain competitive in the Liga Premier next season with hope they can get promoted back into the Liga Super.
