Sabah FC have strengthened their squad for the 2026/27 Malaysia Super League season with the signing of Japanese midfielder Sho Yamamoto. Sabah FC officially described Yamamoto as the “final piece” of their squad for the new season.

Born on 12 November 1996, Yamamoto is 29 years old and has extensive experience playing in Europe and Asia. He has represented clubs including Rudar Pljevlja, OFK Petrovac, Spartak Subotica and FK Iskra before making the move to Indonesia.

In Indonesia, Yamamoto played for Persebaya Surabaya and Persis Solo. During the 2022/23 season with Persebaya, he made 33 league appearances and scored 10 goals.

Yamamoto’s arrival is expected to add creativity and experience to Sabah FC’s midfield while giving head coach Juan Torres Garrido another option as The Rhinos prepare for the 2026/27 season.
