DPMM FC produced an impressive comeback to defeat Terengganu FC 3-1 in the second leg of their Piala FA 2026/27 Round of 16 tie on Wednesday, 16 September, advancing to the quarter-finals with a 5-4 aggregate victory.

Having lost the first leg 3-2 in Bandar Seri Begawan, DPMM arrived in Terengganu needing a result to overturn the one-goal deficit. They made the perfect start when Danial Asri put the visitors ahead in the eighth minute.

Terengganu responded before half-time, with Manuel Ott finding the net in the 44th minute to level the match at 1-1. At that stage, the home side were still ahead 4-3 on aggregate.

The second half, however, belonged to DPMM.

Miguel Oliveira restored DPMM’s lead in the 54th minute before Jordan Murray struck again in the 65th minute to put the Brunei side 3-1 ahead on the night.

Terengganu pushed for a response, but DPMM held firm to secure a 3-1 victory and complete a 5-4 aggregate turnaround.

The result marks a significant turnaround after Terengganu had appeared to have control of the tie following their 3-2 first-leg victory. The win meant that DPMM FC will now progress to the Piala FA quarter-finals together with their Borneo rivals Kuching City which had previously advanced after trashing Kelantan Red Warrior FC.

The match statistics also underline DPMM’s efficiency. Terengganu enjoyed 59 per cent possession and registered 11 shots, compared with 12 from DPMM. However, DPMM recorded nine shots on target against Terengganu’s five.

For Terengganu, the defeat ends their Piala FA campaign at the Round of 16 stage, while DPMM FC move into the last eight after one of the competition’s more dramatic two-leg comebacks. – Sarawakcrocs
