Last Thursday was suppose to be a great and exciting day for Sarawak football with the launching of the new Sarawak 2017 kit.
However, it soon turned out bitter after the jersey was revealed.
Chaos broke out on social media with many condemning the new logo place on the new 2017 Sarawak FA kit.
Some had also criticised the excessive use of the ‘bunga terung’, which to the Ibans, bring a certain meaning to their culture.
Both of these were not addressed or explained by both the Football Association of Sarawak (FAS) amd the kit designers, Lea Sports Centre (LSC), which had continued to keep silent over the issue until today.
Such silence had cause the Crocs, as Sarawak FA is populary known as, to be a joke on the local football scene.
By the time this article is written, it is indeed very much to late for both FAS and LSC to come up with any sort of valid reason to why such designs were approved in the first place.
Any explanation would be deemed as a cover up by fans, and prolonged the debate and troll which have already reached a record breaking thousands, of not millions in internet impression.
FAS and LSC could have both explained in detail, if not briefly the significance of the new logo and also the excessive use of the Bunga Terung hence offering understanding among fans.
But both the press release, and the speeches given during the launching of the new jersey failed to deliver this, and hence the massive negativity surrounding what was suppose to be a day to highlight our young talents.
With Malaysian and Sarawak football gearing into privatisation next season, perhaps it is about time FAS and maybe LSC come up with a proper Public Relations (PR) officer or company to address things like this because, well, it is indeed shameful to be well known for the wrong reasons.
