Star City FC have strengthened their midfield ahead of the new season with the signing of experienced midfielder Moses Atede Jona Atuluku.
The 28-year-old, who was born in Kaduna, Nigeria, brings valuable experience from both Malaysian and Bahraini football, as well as international experience with the Bahrain national team.
Star City FC announced the signing through the club’s official social media channels, describing Atede as an experienced addition who can play an important role in the heart of the Northern Stars’ midfield.
“From the Bahrain national team to the Northern Stars. We are delighted to announce the signing of 28-year-old midfielder Moses Atede Jona,” the club said in its announcement.
“Born in Nigeria and with Malaysia Super League experience with Kuching City, Moses is now ready to take charge of the midfield for Star City FC.”
Atede’s arrival gives Star City another experienced option in the middle of the park, particularly with his ability to operate in a defensive midfield role.
His previous experience in the Malaysia Super League should also help him settle quickly into the domestic competition, having spent the past two seasons with Kuching City FC.
Atede joined Kuching City in September 2024 after previously playing for Sitra Club in Bahrain. During his time with the Sarawak-based side, he featured regularly in Malaysia’s top flight.
National Football Teams records show that Atede made 14 league appearances for Kuching City in the 2024/25 season and 22 appearances during the 2025/26 campaign.
His experience, however, extends beyond club football.
Moses Atede: From Nigeria To Bahrain International
Born on 17 December 1997 in Kaduna, Nigeria, Atede developed his career in Bahrain before making the move into Malaysian football.
He previously represented Al-Hidd and Al-Muharraq in Bahrain before joining Kedah Darul Aman in Malaysia in 2023. He later returned to Bahrain with Sitra Club before moving back to Malaysia with Kuching City.
Atede also became a Bahrain international after obtaining Bahraini nationality.
His international career includes appearances at the 2023 AFC Asian Cup, where Bahrain faced South Korea, Malaysia and Japan. fbref.com records three appearances for Bahrain at the tournament, including two starts.
He has also represented Bahrain in FIFA World Cup qualifying, with ESPN recording an appearance during the AFC qualifying campaign.
A Player With AFC Champions League Experience
Atede’s club career also includes continental football.
While with Al-Muharraq, he was part of the squad that won the 2021 AFC Cup, while his career honours also include a Bahraini Premier League title with Al-Hidd.
His move to Star City therefore represents another chapter in a career that has already taken him through football in Bahrain and Malaysia, as well as international competition with Bahrain.
For Star City FC, the signing provides the Northern Stars with a midfielder who already understands the demands of Malaysian football and has experience playing at international level.
With the new season already in its 3rd week, Atede’s experience could prove valuable as Star City look to strengthen their midfield and compete for their targets.
