Kuching City FC’s FA Cup Round of 16 second-leg clash against Kelantan Red Warriors (KRW) could be moved away from Sarawak due to the ongoing haze situation.

Kuching City FC chief executive officer Iswandi Ali Hassan confirmed that the club’s management has submitted an application to use Stadium Hang Jebat in Melaka as a contingency venue.

“We have submitted an application to use the stadium as a precautionary measure following the haze situation currently affecting Sarawak,” Iswandi told TVS.

According to Iswandi, the Malaysia Football League (MFL) previously stipulated that matches should not be played if the Air Pollutant Index (API) reading exceeds 200.

The club is also considering postponing the match at its home venue to protect the safety of players and supporters. However, the proposal has not been submitted to the MFL due to an already packed domestic and international schedule.

The Cats are scheduled to host KRW on September 8 after the two sides played out a goalless draw in the first leg in Kota Bharu.

Before that, Aidil Sharin Sahak’s side will travel to face Sabah FC on September 5 in the Liga Super.

Kuching City will then take on Melaka FC on September 12 before beginning their AFC Champions League 2 (ACL2) campaign in Cambodia against Phnom Penh Crown FC on September 17.

With a congested fixture list ahead, the haze situation could now force The Cats to make a temporary move south for their crucial FA Cup encounter.
