Kuching FA Assistant Manager Iswandi Ali Hassan has confirmed that his side is applying to fill up the vacant slot in the Liga Premier next season.
According to an article by Utusan Borneo, Iswandi was quoted as saying that Kuching FA needs a formidable side next season as the management had written in to the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) to play in the Liga Premier.
Iswandi said that it would be an honour to play in the Liga Premier shall FAM accepts their request.
The Liga Premier is currently short of teams following withdrawals of several teams from the Liga Premier, and the registration related problems faced in the Liga Super.
FAM is proposing to upgrade MIFA FC from the Liga Premier to the Liga Super next season, leaving the second tier league largely depleted with less than not more than 8 teams.
The void had opened a chain reaction with FAM now said to be interested to promote up to four teams from the Liga FAM to the Liga Premier.
This means Kuching FA has a real chance to be upgraded as the Liga FAM is also short of teams at the moment, particularly after PJ Rangers FC announced their withdrawal as well early this month.
Shall Kuching FA get the green light, football fans in Kuching will have the dilemma of choosing between supporting the state level Sarawak FA, or the community level Kuching FA when the two sides clash.
