Fans of Sarawak FA want their hitman Bobby Gonzales to stay with the team next season, and they are urging the Sarawak Football Association (FAS) to take action to retain the Sabah born striker.
According to respondents on Facebook on the issue, many feel that Bobby deserve to stay with the Crocs after he showed off 29 goals this season, making him the top local striker in the nation based on goals.
Naqibah Ya’kob said “Bobby G has to stay! A player with potential and proven prolific goal scorer. Fox in the box. A true finisher.” as she added “If I were FAS, I’ll sign Bobby G for life”
Her sentiments were echoed by Mohd Muzakkir who opined that Bobby’s age gives him an advantage, and FAS should start making sacrifices for success.
Some fans however expressed worry over what is happening in Sarawak FA, in which a huge number of 2013 players are now being replaced or dropped. In 2012, the Crocs replaced nearly half of their promoted squad, and found themselves relegated after a season in the Malaysia Super League. Despite many blaming the shift of format made by the Football Association of Malaysia for the relegation, a huge number of fans also condemned FAS for dropping many of the local players for local imports which they feel were lacking ‘fighting spirit’.
The worry that the 2012 incident would re-occur was echoed by Erol Kerol who said that he would love Bobby to stay, and hoped that the 2012 incident will not repeat itself.
Nonetheless, there is a good amount of respondents which are undecided on the issue of keeping Bobby with one of them, Dunstan Maramat saying “In Roberts we trust”.
