The shocking decision of the Football Association of Sarawak (FAS) to appoint Ian Gillan as head coach and technical director of the Crocs brings a lot of questions, especially since FAS had previously said they prefer to appoint a local head coach to the job next season.
Ian Gillan, better known as IG to us, has had an impressive resume and his double role for the Crocs may mean that he is keen to stake a mark in Sarawak football during his two year contract.
While FAS is still very much lobbying for a slot in the Liga Super, IG’s role in selecting players for the 2018 team has already begun today officially.
With ten players already departing the Crocs, IG would be keen to bolster his side with talents and also experience, something that does seem lacking in the current Sarawak FA set-up, especially with the current crop of local players being either lacking in experience, of being ‘too experienced’.
That said, we are highly convinced that IG would be looking to persuade FAS to get foreign players to help him strengthen his side, and this may see the Crocs snapping up to three new foreign signings in the coming weeks.
Well, while this is indeed our assumptions, time will tell if they do come true.
