With promotion likely, Sarawak United now gunning for title

Sarawak United is on course into completing the Liga Premier season as they targeted, hitting that sweet spot for promotion to the Liga Super next season.

The professional football club which is owned by Posa Majais has been making waves in the Liga Premier this season, winning most of their first round matches and sitting comfortably at the upper end of the league with two matches in hand.

Tonight, the team known as the Golden Hornbills is expected to climb further on the Liga Premier with an expected win over youngsters Perak II.

This will cement their promotion prospects even further as the Liga Malaysia season progresses through the difficult Covid-19 pandemic.

A win against Perak II will see Sarawak United leap to first in the league standings and further distance themselves by two points from Negeri Sembilan which is now their closest rivals for the title.

It will also further clear them from the reach of PDRM FC, which is the third placed among the teams eligible for promotion by nine points. Nine points may not seem much, but with Sarawak United’s fine form in the league, and other teams underperforming or struggling due to the pandemic, it’s a goliath task for any team just to come close.

Mathematically specking, the fact now is that Sarawak United doesn’t need to even bothered about promotion if they continue their fine form in the league.

What’s more pressing now is to keep win the extra two matches they have in hand, and ensure that Negeri Sembilan doesn’t sneak from behind to win the throne.
