Hopes to bring back the ‘mother of all gold’ hit a bump for the Sarawak camp today after the men’s football team faltered to Perak in their opening match of the SUKMA Sarawak men’s football competition.
The match saw Ahmad Daniel Hakimi bin Ahmad Azmil of Perak scoring the only goal of the match by converting a penalty kick in the 37th minute.
The defeat puts Sarawak in a difficult position in Group D as they now need to win the final two matches to ensure they can enter the quarter finals of the competition.
Group D is currently led by Wilayah Persekutuan and Perak after both teams secure the full three points in their opening match, both through a slim victory.
If Sarawak fail to win their next match against Wilayah Persekutuan on 14 August 2024, their hopes to advance to the quarter finals and eventually win the football gold medal in the men’s football competition will likely depend a lot on the final result between Wilayah Persekutuan and Perak’s match, with only a win during their final match against Pahang on the 16 August 2024 able to give them a slight chance at the next stage.
