Sarawak will need to face Kedah, Perak and Terengganu in the coming Malaysia Cup Group B stages after the official draw was concluded at 2PM today.
On paper, the Crocs look to be favourites to advance to the next stages with Terengganu. The task however looks tricky for Sarawak given that another team, Perak had defeated the Crocs recently in the league thanks to tactical genius Karl Weigang at their disposal.
Kedah are dark horses in the group, but they could spring a few surprises given the fact that the Malaysia Cup is a new ball game.
It is also interesting to point out that Sarawak met, and defeated Perak and Kedah both at the same tournament last year with Sarawak getting the upper hand by advancing to the semi finals.
Group A seems to be an easy passage for former Malaysia Cup champion Pahang FA as they are pitted against underperfoming Lions XII, and Premier League sides Felda United and JDT II.
Kelantan FA and JDT I will also be glad that their opponents in Group C are ‘less equal’ to their stature with both Pulau Pinang and ATM struggling to find their form in the league lately.
Group D will see Selangor FA, as the only state team in the group, to be favourites to advance to the second round of the Malaysia Cup, with likes of PDRM, Sime Darby FC and T-Team fighting for the next spot.
