Malaysia beat Vietnam 2-1 in a crucial men’s football match at the SEA Games on Tuesday to send the Malaysians into the semifinals as the first-place squad in the Group A standings.
The final Group A standings had Malaysia with 10 points, and Singapore with 8. Vietnam finished the competition with 6 points.
In the semi-finals on Thursday December 19, Malaysia will play Group B runner-up Indonesia in the first match at 4pm. In the second match, Group B winner Thailand will take on Group A runner-up Singapore at 7:30pm also on Thursday December 19.
The Malaysia game with Vietnam, played at Zayyarthiri Stadium in the capital of Naypyidaw, was tied 0-0 at the half before Malaysia finally broke the tie in the 82nd minute, and then went up 2-0 in the 91st minute.
Vietnam scored their goal in the 94th minute.
Malaysia’s goals were scored by Saarvindran Devandrn and Ashri Chuchu, according to reports.
Vietnam’s goal was scored by Hoang Thien Le.
