SEA Games Football: Brunei 0-2 Malaysia

The Malaysian Under-23 squad scored a meaningless 2-0 victory over minnows Brunei in their fourth Group B match at the Bishan Stadium, in Singapore last night.

The win yesterday, the second in the Singapore SEA Games competition, would not ensure a semifinal spot for coach Datuk Ong Kim Swee’s boys since Vietnam and Thailand have already booked their berth in the semifinals from Group B.

Despite facing Brunei who are rooted at the bottom of Group B, Kim Swee’s boys had to wait until the 71st minute to draw first blood through Muhammad Nurridzuan Abu Hassan Saari’s strike before Adam Nor Azlin made it 2-0 six minutes later.

Malaysia who beat Timor Leste 1-0 in their opening group match, suffered two consecutive defeats at the hands of Vietnam (1-5) and Thailand (0-1) to drop out of contention.
Meanwhile, in Group A, host country Singapore rekindled their semifinal hopes by beating Cambodia 3-1 at the Jalan Besar Stadium last night.

Singapore with six points need to beat Indonesia who have three points, to ensure their passage to the semifinals.
