Sarawak’s SUKMA XXII campaign ends at group stage

Sarawak’s football campaign at the XXII Malaysia Games (SUKMA) Selangor 2026 came to an end after the team were eliminated from Group A despite securing a 3-2 victory over Terengganu in their final group match.

The win was not enough to send Sarawak through, as they finished third in the group behind Sabah.

All three teams collected three points, but Sarawak ended the campaign at the bottom of the group due to their inferior goal difference after suffering a 0-2 defeat to Sabah in their opening match on Thursday.

Playing at UKM Stadium in Bangi, Terengganu took the lead in the 13th minute through Muhammad Syahir Sukri.

Sarawak responded strongly, with Muhammad Amran Shah Mohd Anuar levelling the score in the 20th minute before Muhammad Amirul Hafiz Khairul Azuar put Sarawak ahead seven minutes later.

Terengganu restored parity in the 55th minute through Muhammad Haziq Zamri, but Sarawak quickly regained the lead when Amran Shah scored his second goal of the match in the 60th minute.

Sarawak were reduced to 10 men late in the match after Mirza Arif Ewan Saufi was sent off for a second yellow card.

Despite being a man down, Sarawak continued to push forward in search of a fourth goal that would have kept their hopes of advancing alive.

However, their finishing let them down as they failed to find the crucial fourth goal, with the score remaining Sarawak 3-2 Terengganu until the final whistle.

The result marked the end of Sarawak’s SUKMA XXII football campaign, with the team finishing third in Group A.

Despite the early exit, the victory over Terengganu provided a positive finish to their tournament campaign.
