The President of the Football Association of Sarawak (FAS), Dato Posa Majais told Utusan Sarawak that there was no more room for import players in the Sarawak FA team next season.
Posa was confirming that FAS would be releasing all seven non-Sarawakian imports at the end of their contracts, namely Ronny Harun, Ramesh Lai, Shahril Saári, Bruno Demerson, Sahil Suhaimi, Mateo Roskam and Milos Raichovic.
According to Posa, local Sarawakian players would be drafted to fill the void left by these players.
The move isn’t surprising considering Posa has been consistent in wanting a full Sarawakian team from the start of his tenure as President of FAS, though we can’t help think that the ‘less sound’ financial situation of FAS may have also accelerated the move.
On social media, reaction of fans have been mixed, but many believing the Crocs will struggle without foreign imports next season.
Well, since the new season is still four months to go, we will just have to wait and see if FAS will keep to their decision to go ‘All local’, or will there be a change of heart as the new season comes closer.
