Kuching City FC displayed great fighting spirit and immense character to stage a remarkable comeback, defeating Terengganu FC (TFC) 2-1 in front of their home fans at the State Stadium, Sarawak, tonight.
This dramatic victory allows Aidil Sharin Sahak’s squad to climb the league standings, applying heavy pressure on the teams at the top of the table.
Right from the starting whistle, the visiting team appeared to control the tempo of the match.
The home squad’s frustration from last week’s draw against Brunei DPMM seemed to still haunt them.
Terengganu FC quickly seized this opportunity. In the 13th minute, resulting from a chaotic corner kick inside the penalty box, TFC’s import player, Shervoni Mabatshoev, leaped high to head in the opening goal, stunning the home supporters.
Shocked by the goal, Kuching City began launching relentless attacks into the opponent’s half.
However, the agility of TFC goalkeeper Rahadiazli Rahalim, who brilliantly saved a series of dangerous attempts, ensured the 1-0 lead for the visitors remained until the end of the first half.
Entering the second half, Kuching City FC tightened up their attacking machinery and applied maximum pressure on TFC’s defense.
The visitors’ backline began making mistakes due to the hosts’ continuous onslaught.
Luck finally favored Kuching City when they were awarded a penalty kick after winger Ramadan Saifullah was brought down in the penalty area.
Lethal import striker Wanja Ronald Ngah did not waste the golden opportunity, firing a clinical equalizer in the 63rd minute and reigniting the cheers at the State Stadium.
The momentum of the game shifted drastically, with The Cats now dominating ball possession.
All their hard work paid off in the 79th minute. Following a well-orchestrated counter-attack, import player Jerome Mpacko Etame emerged as the hero, heading in the winning goal for Kuching City.
Terengganu FC tried to bounce back in the final 10 minutes of the match, but the hosts’ solid defensive discipline ensured the 2-1 result stood until the final whistle.
This victory is highly significant for Kuching City FC in their bid to finish the 2025/2026 Super League season in the best possible position. – SarawakCrocs
