Match Report: DPMM FC 2-2 Kuching City

Kuching City only have themselves to blame after failing to secure three valuable points in Brunei tonight.

Coming off a morale-boosting victory against Selangor FC last week, Kuching City started aggressively. They took an early lead in the 6th minute through a clinical finish by Danial Asri, who tapped in a well-placed pass from Ngah Wanja.

However, DPMM soon took control, looking the more dangerous side. Their persistent attacks paid off as Jordan Rodrigues netted two goals in quick succession (23rd and 31st minutes) to turn the tide. The first half ended 2-1 in favor of the hosts, with Kuching City appearing lackluster in both defense and attack.

In the second half, Kuching City pushed to close the gap and were handed a golden opportunity in the 58th minute. Unfortunately, Ngah Wanja’s penalty kick was expertly saved by the DPMM goalkeeper.

Despite the setback, Kuching City continued to hunt for the equalizer. Their efforts were frequently thwarted by a DPMM side that had shifted into a defensive posture to protect their lead.

The drama peaked in the dying minutes of the match when Kuching City was awarded a second penalty following a foul in the box. Jordan Mintah stepped up to take the spot-kick. Although his initial shot was saved, he was quickest to the rebound, firing the loose ball into the net to level the score.

Mintah’s goal proved to be the final act of the night. The referee blew the final whistle shortly after, leaving both teams to share the spoils with a 2-2 draw at full-time.
