A screamer from Nur Shamie was enough to give Sarawak the full point tonight, earning them another shot at football glory in Malaysia’s highest ranked league.
Sarawak started the game with much urgency in search for the critical win to remain in the Liga Super, but with PDRM equally keen to upset the Crocs, both teams played cautiously for the first ten minutes.
The game started to be exciting in the 25th minute when Sarawak started to launch dangerous attacks on the visiting team’s goal.
Defender, Teah Dennis almost converted a corner kick by Tommy Mawat, but his tap on the ball went high above the bar.
PDRM countered, and a misunderstanding at the Sarawak defences allowed Guilhelmar to power in a beautiful goal to put the Cops in the driving seat in the 26th minute.
Sarawak’s strike force which featured Gilmar and Makeche never gave up, and were handsomely rewarded in the dying minutes of the half with a penalty kick, after the ball hit a PDRM player’s hand.
Gilmar opted to place the ball to the left of the goalkeeper, which saw it save to the dismay of about some 2,000 Sarawak fans.
Gilmar nonetheless redeemed himself just before halftime when the referee yet again rewarded Sarawak with a penalty kick after a PDRM player deliberately handled the ball.
Not wanting to make the same mistake, Gilmar blasted home the equalizer to ensure both teams enter the dressing room on equal terms.
The start of the second half saw both team slowing down the pace, with both sides unable to create dangerous chances for the first 20 minutes.
PDRM came close to scoring in the 85th minute, but Sarawak player literally defended their goal with their bodies to keep the ball out, and in play.
Gilmar came close to score for the Crocs in the 86th minute, but his powerful header was pushed out for a fruitless corner.
With a draw looking likely, a long range pass from Ronny Harun who was just utside the penalty box went straight to Nur Shamie who quickly dribbled it towards the PDRM penalty area, before powering a stunning shot which put the Crocs ahead in the 88th minute.
With injury time fast approaching, Sarawak made tactical substitutions and put in Dalgish Papin and Ashri Chuchu for Tommy and Dzulazlan.
PDRM never gave up to find the equalizer, but despite their best efforts, Sarawak stood their ground to keep the score in their favour, and ensure their survival in the Liga Super.
Final Score: Sarawak 2-1 PDRM
