International Friendly: Malaysia 0-0 Hong Kong

Malaysia had nothing to show for in the goalless draw against Hong Kong in a friendly at the Shah Alam Stadium.

Malaysia, who were using the match on Saturday as a run-up to their 2018 World Cup qualifying campaign next week, were a pathetic lot.

They were disorganised and showed a lack of urgency, much to coach Dollah Salleh’s annoyance.

The former international striker was constantly on the sidelines shouting instructions, but to no avail.

He fielded his regulars, except for suspended skipper Safiq Rahim.

The two notable rookies in the starting 11 were midfielder Syamim Yahya and striker Afiq Azmi.

Malaysia had only two clear chances in each half.

First, midfielder Joseph Kallang Tie’s goal-bound shot was saved by an alert Hong Kong goalkeeper Yapp Hung Fai in the 36th minute.

Safee Sali had the best chance, but his point-blank shot was saved by Hung Fai in the 75th minute.

Malaysia open their World Cup qualifying campaign against Timor Leste at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil on June 11.
