“More than a month”. That was what Robert Alberts had to say about his influential Hungarian defender’s absence in his team due to the latest injury scare.
Gabor Gyepes, a popular fan favourite among the huge Sarawak fan base might end up heating the spectator seat more often after he limped out during the Sime Darby game which saw the ‘Giant Killers’ race to a comeback and defeat Sarawak by a goal with Gabor absent at the back line.
The response by Robert prompted us to do a brief check on the latest schedule for Sarawak FA’s games, and it clearly show that the Crocs are set to end the Super League season against JDT at home, on 25th June, which is roughly about a month from now.
This means that Sarawak may not be able to utilize Gabor until Hari Raya, and hope the hardworking defender will be match fit for the all important quest to win the Malaysia Cup this season.
With Gabor definitely out of Robert’s selection, the defending responsibilities now return to the hands of Sarawak’s six local solid defenders of 2013, namely Ronny Harun, Hairol Mokhtar, Ramesh Lai, Mafry Balang, Mazwandi Zakeria and Dzulazlan Ibrahim with Dzulazlan the only one yet to start this season.
Fans however do not have to worry as the Crocs showed rock solid defending last season with the likes of Ronny Harun, Mafry Balang, Hairol Mokhtar and Ramesh Lai regulars in the back four which saw the team go undefeated in the Premier League.
