The Football Malaysia Limited Liability Partnership (FMLLP) has asked Malaysian football players and football clubs to start using social media to boost their branding and influence.
This was said today at the Liga Super and Liga Premier briefing.
According to FMLLP, clubs are requested to use social media as a tool to improve their reach to their fan base in which accurate news and information should be provided when making a posting.
Clubs have also been requested encourage use of social media among their players but warned that players need to be made aware that they are role models and should be careful of what they post up.
The agency which takes charge of the Malaysian league from 2016 adviced players to not share images or comments with negative properties such as smoking, nudity and alcohol. FMLLP has therefore produced a social media guideline for players with hope that players will be caredul of what they do online.
FMLLP also does not deny that it might look into following the English Premier League in reprimanding players that tarnish the imge of their respective clubs.
In relation to the matter, FMLLP also hopes all clubs will improve and update their official websites, pointing out that every team must have a media officer.
The Liga Super and Liga Premier briefing takes a break for Friday prayers and will resume on later in the afternoon.
