FAS Club License: Sarawak goverment expected to step in

It is highly expected that the Sarawak FA predicament in being unable to obtain their club license would result in the Sarawak Government stepping in to help.

While the Sarawak Government has largely played an ‘off grid’ role in developing football in Sarawak, it is a known fact that they have been giving annual grants for the Football Association of Sarawak (FAS) to operate.

According to what we know, this years football grant totalled to about RM4 million which is quite huge if compared to the amount given by sponaors to the team. Despite the grant, FAS had always had a free hand in their decision making when it comes to matters pertaining to football.

With Sarawak FA now facing the possibility of being not able to compete in either the Liga Premier and Liga Super next season, thanks to financial issues claimed to be left by the previous management, we do however anticipate top level efforts to help clear the mess especially since election is just around the corner, and politicians would be keen to impress by doing some good to help the most popular sport in Sarawak survive this unexpected issue.

Nevertheless, our speculation that the Sarawak Government would help FAS for now is of course just pure assumptions, and it remains to be seen what will be done by FAS in coming days to drag themselves out of this thorny issue. – SarawakCrocs
