While fans were largely divided when the the Football Association of Sarawak (FAS) changed to the new management under Dato Posa Majais who took over from Datu Sudarsono who didn’t want to extend his tenure, the tide which favours the new management seems to be slowly turning against them.
The shocking three goals which Felcra FC scored for the win during the last Liga Premier game has not only caused FAS to suspect match fixing as the root of the cause, but fans alike are slowly questioning the ability of the team to compete in the league.
FAS, in our opinion, had pre-maturely announced publicly that there are investigating players for match fixing during the Felcra FC game, and we can’t help but feel that the announcement is not only a PR disaster, but also a possible ‘demoralizer’ towards the majority of players.
Adding to FAS woes is the absence of head coach Ian Gillan who was not with the team, despite having a week to settle ‘family matters’. While it is understandable that Ian may need time to deal with his family, fans are starting to question if Ian would be back with the team.
And then there’s questions about the intake of import players. While most fans are aware of Mateo Roskam and Milos Raichovic’s abilities on the field, there has been ‘negative noise’ about newly acquired Nebosja Marinkovic which have left fans wanting more.
Also coming into question is Kim Chi-Gon’s status as he has yet to play a full 90-minutes, something import players in Malaysia are expected to do.
With the next game dubbed as ‘The Borneo Derby’, it is felt that FAS needs to straighten out a lot of things because a defeat to high riding Sabah FA will not be well received by fans who see the Nothern Borneo side as their rivals in the Liga Premier.
