FAM fines Football Association of Sarawak RM2,500

The Football Association of Sarawak (FAS) was fined RM2,500 by the Football Association of Malaysia for incidents related to flares by their supporters.

According to FAM’s press release, FAS had breached Article 70.1 of FAM’s Ethics Code when their fans lighted and burned flares in Zone B of Stadium Negeri during the Sarawak versus Sabah match on 23 February 2019.

FAM also said that FAS had also breached the same article on 9th February when Sarawak was entertaining Pulau Pinang.

FAS is required to pay the fine within 14 working days after they received the verdict and was warned that similar incidents would be dealt with even heavier punishments.

This is not the first time FAS had been punished for flare related incident, but this is one of the more lineant sentence as compared to previous similar incidents.

The verdict came from the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) Disciplinary Committee tenth meeting for the 2017-2021 term. It was held on 27th March 2019 and involved 9 cases.
