THE Super League beckons Sarawak, but the East Malaysians are not letting their guard down when they play bottom-placed NS Betaria at Stadium Negri in Kuching.
“We need to keep our winning momentum to remain on top of the league,” Sarawak head coach Robert Alberts told sports247.my.
Sarawak dislodged Sime Darby from the No 1 spot in the 12-team league after a 1-0 over the plantation giants in Kuching two weeks ago. They followed this up with a 3-1 win over Police at the Hang Jebat Stadium in Malacca on Friday.
The Crocs lead the standings with 43 points – winning 13 of their 17 matches and drawing four. Sarawak are the only team in the Premier League who have not lost a match.
Sime Darby beat Betaria 2-0 in their last match to remain in second place with 42 points also from 17 matches – with 13 wins, three draws and one defeat.
After Betaria, Sarawak will be away to mid-table Pos Malaysia on Tuesday.
This match was scheduled for May 3 but was postponed because of the 13th General Election on May 5.
“The players are highly motivated to complete their league fixtures on a winning note. They know a lot is at stake after failing to gain promotion to the Super League when they lost to Pahang in the playoffs.”
Sarawak’s Sabah-born striker Bobby Gonzales has been scoring regularly and he netted his 13th league goal in the win over Police.
