Bernhardt: Unlikely for Malaysia to win gold at SEA Games

Malaysia U-22 head coach, Frank Bernhardt has stated that Malaysia will not win the football gold medal in the coming 2017 SEA Games if the current trend of centralized training is adopted.

The German said that his side was only called for centralized training twice next year, and admitted that it was insufficient.

Bernhardt nonetheless added that the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) is going to hold discussions with clubs involved to improve the situation, including allowing players to have longer stints with the Malaysian U-22 squad.

Among the solutions include FAM loaning out affected players from their respective clubs, with the national football body paying their salaries when they train with the national team.
