Both Colombia and Ivory Coast won their first World Cup group matches by beating Greece and Japan respectively.

Colombia rolled over Greece in an upset result with fullback Pablo Armero scoring the first goal five minutes into the game.

Despite Greece coming forward in their effort to level the score, Teófilo Gutiérrez doubled Colombia’s lead in the 58th minute from a corner.

James Rodriguez then sealed Colombia’s win as he finishes a loose ball with a right-foot strike to give Colombia the lead in Group C.

Later in the morning, Japan suffered a narrow defeat to Ivory Coast with the Japanese finding the back of the net first through Keisuke Honda in the 16th minute.

A two minute goal salvo by Ivory Coast’s Wilfried Bony and Gervinho however ensure Japan finished the game after the duo scored a goal each 64th and 66th minute to put Ivory Coast second in the Group C standings.
