The Bosnian factor

KUCHING: Sarawak’s 2-0 win over Perlis on Saturday night might just be an expected victory but their intention to score more goals to catch up with high-riding Sime Darby may have fall short of its aim.

However, the performance of their new Bosnian playmaker Muamer Silabasic was the good news to Sarawak for even coach Robert Alberts was excited of his team’s new addition.

Without the other foreign talismanic player Guy Bwele who was suspended, Silabasic was the toast of the Sarawak team involving in all the two goals scored first by Joseph Kalang Tie and Bobby Gonzalez.

Silabasic who replaced Ivan Babic may have failed to score, missing a sitter in the second half when he was presented with a nice layoff by Joseph but that did not damper the “new Sarawak strength”.

“The main difference that light up the match was Silabasic.

“He covered a lot of ground and being in his first match it was a good performance by him and was also involved in both the two goals scored by Sarawak.

“The player can control the midfield and even though he should have scored in one occasion I’m confident he will score,” said Alberts, heaping accolades on the player.

Alberts said even though his intention was to score more goals to make up the difference with Sime Darby who had 29 goals to Sarawak’s current 20, he was satisfied with the result on the field.

“For the second half I told my boys to go for it to get the third goal and then the fourth but was rather disappointed when we stopped going after only two goals.

“Only when I put in Mazwandi Zekeria and took out Zamri Morshidi that the team got going a little better.

“We were poor in the set pieces but the two goals were good enough as they were not even dangerous,” said Alberts who said his team had done well with a 13 match unbeaten run in the league.

He was also satisfied that his team’s churning out the points have kept them in fine distance as they are two points adrift of Sime Darby and six points away from Johor who are third in the league.
