Sarawak FA slapped with reduced grants penalty and transfer embargo by MFL

Sarawak FA yet again made headlines for the wrong reason after the Malaysia Football League (MFL) announced that they were one of the five teams penalized for failing to register their teams before the given due date of 31 December 2018.

MFL in a statement said that Sarawak, together with Kelantan FA, Pulau Pinang FA, PDRM FA and Kuala Lumpur FA will have their yearly grant reduced by 50 percent and they will not be able to sign new players during the coming transfer window this 2nd May 2019.

The decision to enforce a transfer embargo towards Sarawak and the other four teams came as MFL said it was the second time the five teams failed to register players on time.

Another two teams, namely Felda United and Melaka United were slapped with a 50 percent reduction yearly grant penalty as it was their first offence.

MFL Chief Executive Officer, Kevin Ramalingam said “the decision was made by the MFL board members and all parties can make an appeal within 7 days until 5PM this 29 April 2019”.

He added that “Teams which still owe documents required to the registration especially regarding finances need to submit the documents withn 30 days”.

Ramalinggam warned that if the teams still fail to do so after the new dateline, they will be deducted 3 points.

It is made known that Felda is the only team out of the seven that had submitted complete documentation, which means Sarawak is among the teams which had not done so.
