Kuching City FC scored an important win againts Kelantan FC yesterday and it perhaps marked a very important turning point in the journey of this young profesional football team.
Kelantan currently sit in the middle of the Liga Premier, and defeated Kuching City in the first round of the league months ago.
Kuching City, the team nicknamed The Cats, now sits very uncomfortably at the second bottom of the league with 13 points, not far from Perak II which is just above them.
However, with not less than 5 games in hand, The Cats can look to slowly climb upwards in the league and the win against mid-table Kelantan may just be that starting point they need.
In the first round, Kuching City was well praised for their impressive display of football, but poor finishing has seen the team fail to deliver match after match.
The inclusion of new striker, Micheal Ijezie may just be the answer to that problem as the ace striker who played his trade in Langkawi City previously, got off to an amazing start in his career with Kuching City by netting in a goal during his debut match.
More is expected from Ijezie as his comes with a mouth watering 40 plus goals to his career so far.
Fact is, Kuching also looked more dangerous with the inclusion of Ijezie, and the fact Kuching City was able to start key player Joseph Kalang Tie from the bench only shows how the side is now more formidable.
I personally also liked how head coach Irfan Bakti played down the important win against Kelantan as it would serves a good reminder to his players that there’s plenty of work to be done and that the players especially, should not take their victory as a sign they are playing well.
If the players can realize this, one can be quite sure that Kuching City will be promotion contenders by the time they complete all the six games they have yet played, with a possibility of ‘stealing’ the league title very much possible if the league leaders continue to drop points.
