Red Giants wins 33rd M’sia Cup

The Red Giants have created history again by winning the Malaysia Cup for the 33rd time this season.

Ahmad Hazwan Bakri put the Red Giants in front of the thrilling game after just three minutes when Brazilian Guilherme de Paula released Hazwan with a brilliant through pass which was made to count.

Kedah regrouped but failed to break down the Selangor’s backline which was marshalled by skipper Shahrom Abdul Kalam.

After the breather, Ahmad again punished Kedah’s backline when he blasted De Paula exquisite past Firdaus and into the bottom corner of the net to put the Red Giants two goals up, with Kedah sinking further in the game.

Kedah tried to claw back into the game but had their final efforts going out of the window when goalkeeper Firdaus Muhamad was red-carded four minutes from the end for blocking S. Veenod’s goal-bound effort with his hands outside the penalty area.

The win meant that the Red Giants extend their success in the Malaysia Cup to 33.
