Petaling Jaya residents were bound for an amazing football season when Air Asia FC announced the rebranding of their club to Petaling Jaya Rangers FC.
Not only did such move create an immediate sense of belonging for Petaling Jaya residents towards Petaling Jaya Rangers, it also gave local footie fans who are not fans Selangor FA, a new club to support.
Today, Petaling Jaya Rangers, better known as Rangers, through its main sponsor AirAsia, is showing how football branding can be done right, and we are loving it because this is what we think football in Malaysia should be doing. – We can’t help wonder when Sarawak FA would follow suit.
In a brief red hot announcement, Air Asia announced they are holding a logo competition for their new re-branded club, and they are offering the winner free flights for a year!
To ensure those in Petaling Jaya are equally excited, a two year free flight is on the table, if you are from Petaling Jaya, so there’s every reason for Petaling Jaya residents to start drawing!
While most footie fans are looking at Johor Darul Ta’zim as a benchmark of success, we are eager to see what the Rangers can do as a team and brand because for us, they are starting to brand their team right.
