MSL2015: Sarawak FA 2-1 Lions XII [UPDATED]

Sarawak secured an all important win tonight after they defeated a high riding Lions XII at Stadium Negeri. The Crocs went ahead by two goals in the first half courtesy of two corner kicks which was converted by Neyma Patrick and Billy Mehmet, while the visitors scored their consolation goal through a penalty kick which was converted by Khairul Amri.

The game started with both team cautious but soon it turned exciting after Hairol Mokhtar’s header was easily saved by Lions XII goalkeeper, Izwan Mahbud.

The Crocs pressed harder and a setpiece by Fuad’s side finally broke the deadlock when Neyma Patrick Gerthardt powered a powerful header off a corner kick.

Muhd Khairul Nizam almost equalized for the visiting team moments after that, but his shot was wild and off target.

Sarawak improved their game play and started moving forward in numbers with Neyma Patrick using his body size to great advantage up-front.

Ryan Griffith then tried a long range effort, but his shot was parried away by Izwan to keep the score still narrow.

In the 38th minute, the stadium erupted again when Sarawak, off a set-piece converted another corner in the 38th minute.

This time, it was Billy Mehmet who made the corner count as he headed in the second goal of the game.

After half time, the Crocs continued where they picked up but Lions XII showed better promise with short passing.

Nonetheless, it was Billy again teasing Izwan when his long range shot was yet again saved before it could hit the net.

In the 75th minute, Khairul Amri converted a spot kick for Lions XII after Ronny Harun was accused of commiting a foul in the penalty box. The goal opened the game back, and Lions XII was eager as ever to find the equalizer.

Sarawak players opted to slow the game down with Ivan Fatic earning his marching orders after he deliberately wasted time on two occasions.

Despite playing with ten men, the Crocs managed to contain Lions XII’s insurgences at the dying minutes of the game, ensuring the Crocs win thier last home game in the Super League this season.
