Money indeed can’t buy everything last Saturday when Sarawak played a discipline game to hold multi-million squad JDT at Larkin Stadium.
The game which was watched by a capacity crowd didn’t disappoint anyone as both sides exchanged attacks from the first whistle.
Sarawak came close to leading the score line, but first choice goalkeeper of JDT, Izham Tarmizi, was quick to grab a ball meant for Rashid Aya in the third minute.
The save however marked the end of Izham game for the night as he was later stretched out when Rashid failed to avoid colliding with his during the attack.
The game carried on with Sarawak displaying neat short passing to the dismay of JDT players which were led by super start Luciano Figueroa.
Frustrations grew bigger on the home side when the neat passing Sarawak stunned the them in the 17th minute thanks to an opening made available by Rashid to S Chanturu. The team goal which saw the ball exchange passes with not less than five players finally ended at Chanturu’s feet whom did no mistake to curl it home for the Crocs to lead the game.
JDT tried to break Sarawak’s ball possession by pressing the ball, but the back line of Sarawak led by Gabor Gyepes was calm to clear any possible threats.
The home supporters prayers were however finally answered in the 30th minute when Argentinian Luciano calmly rounded off Sarawak’s Sani Anuar to put the score level, and hence making Stadium Larkin alive yet again.
In the second half, both teams continued to exchange attacks, but every effort seems to be far from the intended target.
JDT’s expensive line-up seemed frustrated with the lack of scoring opportunities, while the Crocs used their effective counter attacks to unsettle the back line of JDT which was marshaled by Mahali Jasuli.
JDT finally decided to bring in Pablo Aimar to take on the midfield of Sarawak which had so far performed well, but the Argentinian couldn’t help change his teams fate despite displaying some fantastic moves.
As the whistle drew closer to the finish, Hassan found himself with a great chance to score the winner for the Crocs, but his finishing touch went high and wide despite being one-on-one with JDT’s goalkeeper.
Another chance came soon after for Sarawak through Ryan Griffith whom was fouled in the box, but the referee waved it away, before finally blowing the full whistle to mark that both JDT and Sarawak would share points for the night.
FINAL SCORE: JDT 1-1 SARAWAK
OUR MoM: Gabor Gyepes
