The football ranking of Malaysia dropped to an all time low in the recent FIFA Rankings.
According to the ranking, the national team now sits at the 171st position, sharing the spot with neighbors Indonesia which had it’s FIFA membership suspended due to political interference in football.
In the South East Asia region, only Brunei, Laos and Cambodia are ranked lower than Malaysia while other teams, including Malaysia’s next opponent in the World Cup Qualifiers, Timor Leste are ranked much higher.
Perhaps a consolation from the new FIFA rank for Malaysians is that they only dropped 2 spots from their previous spot if compared to the Philippines which dropped 9th spots from their previous ranking at 125th, hence making them the team with the worst drop in rank.
On the other hand, Vietnam was the only South East Asian team to actually improve their ranking as they move three spots to 149th.
Below is the complete team ranking for teams in South East Asia.
