Malaysia could lose their eligibility to send teams to tournaments organized by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) if the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) and Malaysia Football League (MFL) are found guilty of violations regarding football club licensing in the Liga Malaysia.
According to an article by Stadium Astro, the AFC has already begun their investigation on both entities with the daily quoting AFC Secretary General Windor John as saying that the investigation is focusing on licensing process for clubs in the Liga Malaysia (M-League).
The daily further added that if MFL or FAM are found guilty, they both could lose their authority to award national football licences to Liga Malaysia clubs.
This in turn will cause Malaysian clubs to lose its spot in AFC organized competitions and tournaments as no Malaysian representatives would be eligible to compete on the Asian stage.
Widsor also said that they will be in touch with both MFL and FAM in regards to the matter.
It is reported by FMT that the issues pertaining to the Liga Malaysia National Football Club license came to light following irregulities concerning unpaid salaries in the Liga Malaysia.
Previously, the Iran Football Association had their license revoked by AFC resulting in no Iranian football teams being able to compete at the Asian stage.
