The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) has agreed to expand the current three tier Liga Malaysia system into a four tier league system by adding a fourth division. The announcement was made by it’s president Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim.
According to a report carried out by Utusan Malaysia, the new division would be used to polish and find new football talents.
Based on the announcement,the fourth division league will consist of lower ranked teams which include local clubs and community based clubs, with players under 19 years of age being the main players in the league. Based on the report, teams owned by small businesses would also be able to play trade in the fourth Liga Malaysia division.
The move would automatically see the Piala FA expanded to cater for more teams, although it is not known when the new division would start.
