Under Kim Pan-gon, Sarawakian Nur Shamie Iszuan has earned several national call-ups to represent the country.
The midfielder told TVS that he was not sure why Pan-gon selected him to play for the national team, but believed that it was probably due to his good performances with Sarawak United, and his ability to adapt to Pan-gon’s tactical play.
“I’m not sure why Kim Pan-gon called me to the national team. Maybe I was called because I was performing well with Sarawak United because the coach doesn’t call people up (for the national team) any how.
“He calls someone who based on his tactical requirements and if the player can deliver his tactics. Maybe this is why he called me to be part of the national team.” Shamie said in the exclusive interview with TVS.
Shamie also shared his opinion about the South Korean coach which he regarded as a family man, and a person who treats players like brothers and friends.
He added that Pan-gon may look fierce during matches, but the coach was someone easy to approach and talk with despite his desire for players to deliver his tactics on the pitch.
“Kim Pang Goon is a real family man. He is good both in and out the field. Although he looks fierce during matches, he is very friendly and easy to approach. However in the field, he wants us to follow his tactics and deliver.” Shamie added.
In recent years, Kim Pan-gon has made himself a household name in Malaysian football with the South Korean able to lift Malaysia’s National Football team, Harimau Malaya, into greater heights in regional and international competitions.
