Funding has been a huge issue since a couple of years ago for the Football Association of Sarawak (FAS).
Last season, lack of funding was constantly used as an excuse for the poor performance of the Sarawak FA team with Posa Majeis constantly issuing statements in regards to financial difficulties of the association.
During the launch of the new Sarawak FA jersey, Posa admitted that FAS had received RM6.7 million from the Sarawak government and corporate sponsors last year but told that was amount was far from enough given that FAS needs around RM12 million.
Posa also added that there is a need for more funding this season.
Sarawak Sports Minister clarified that the government will never leave FAS ‘high and dry’, adding that the government had given FAS RM3.5 million yearly, and this is set to continue this year.
Abdul Karim also confirmed that the funds received by FAS is the biggest allocation for a sports body in Sarawak, but the value is smaller than what other Liga Malaysia teams are receiving.
Abdul Karim added that FAS had also requested an additional RM4 million this year, and he doesn’t see any obstacle for it to be approved.
Sarawak launched their new jersey and song yesterday .
