SARAWAK head coach Robert Alberts has expressed regret over what he described as “unbecoming behaviour” of NS Betaria FC players who displayed rowdyism and hurled abuses against the Sarawak players.
Nevertheless, the Dutchman is proud that his players were unfazed and despite taunts from the Negri Sembilan side, enjoyed a goal feast against their opponent.
Sarawak edged NS Betaria FC 7-0 in the match played at the Sarawak State Stadium on Friday.
Alberts said the manner in which NS Betaria FC players behaved and their usage of insults against his players was a “shame to Malaysian football”.
“I can only say that what they said to our players on the field was disgraceful and shameful. During the match, our players kept me informed about what was told to them (hurling of abusive words).
“My advice to my players was to focus on the match and try to score as many goals as they could,” he told reporters after the match on Friday.
Asked what words were used to insult the Sarawak players, Alberts declined to provide details, except to say that he would let the management file a complaint to the Football Association of Malaysia.
On another development, Alberts confirmed that Junior Eldstal would undergo training with the Skuad Harimau Muda at Slovakia in July.
“Ong Kim Swee (coach) has spoken to me. I have given my opinion about Junior and he (Ong) plans to call him up for training at Slovakia so he can have a good look. For me, Junior has been doing a good job, and these are positive things for Junior,” he said.
Eldstal was previously playing in the Vauxhall Football League in England.
