Germany shocked Portugal last night with Pepe red carded for a foolish act in the early minutes of the game. The Germans never turned back after Thomas Mueller opened the score through a penalty in the 12th minute.
Hummels later powered home the second from a corner on 32 minutes, before Mueller, top scorer at the 2010 World Cup, stole in ahead of a sleepy Bruno Alves to smash in the third in first-half stoppage-time.
Muller then completing the first hat-trick of the tournament after 78 minutes when he prodded home a spilled Andre Schuerrle cross.
The win pushed the Germans to top of Group G, making them favourites to advance to the next round.
In another match, Iran and Nigeria were all square at Baixada Arena with both side failing to score. Fans jeered and booed both teams as they displayed poor football on the pitch.
The draw is the first of this tournament.
The final match last night was won by USA who defeated Ghana with Clint Dempsey scoring the fifth fastest goal in tournament history in the fist minute.
Ghana equalized late in the game through André Ayew, but John Brooks managed to seal in a last goal in the 87th minute to give the USA a dramatic 2-1 victory over Ghana on Monday.
