Preview: Sarawak vs Kuala Lumpur

Confidence is indeed high in the Sarawak camp with everyone excited of the prospect of ending a 15 year silverware drought owned by the Crocs.

If style was considered, the Crocs definitely did it with flying colours as they are the only side in the Malaysian Premier League (MPL) yet to be defeated, a streak that is also made even more unbelievable with the eight straight wins in the last eight games.

Kuala Lumpur now stands as the only team separating Sarawak and their ambition to lift the MPL title, and the Crocs are of course rated as favourites to win, and do just that tomorrow.

However, history has proved that over confidence can be a huge spoiler for the Crocs with Kuala Lumpur more than ready to show they are no pushovers despite off field allegations involving bookies.

In fact, striker Kalle Sone which Sarawak head coach Robert Alberts has hailed as ‘one of the best’ last season now leads the attacking force of the City Boys, hence making this encounter very interesting to see.

Kalle will definitely want to prove that Sarawak should have been patient over his injury last season, while Sarawak would want to wrap up the title at home, in front of an expected 26,000 full house crowd.

Apart from Kalle, Benedict Martin would also be eager to make an impression in front of his former Sarawakian mates, as Roberts left him cold last season.

But Sarawak is expected to go all out for the win tomorrow. Morale among the Crocs players are at its peak, and the chance of being league champions after sixteen years of ‘nada’ is the best motivation any player could have.

Robert is therefore expected to start with his strongest line-up with both Muamer Salibasic and Bobby Gonzales tasked in getting the goals with Zamri Moshidi, Joseph Kallang, Junior Eldstal and Guy Bwele taking charge of the engine room as usual.

The defence is somewhat assured with towering Hairol Mokhtar, Ronny Harun, Mafry Ballang and Ramesh Lai on a personal mission to ensure Sarawak not only emerge champs, but also having the best defence in the MPL, while Sani Anuar is expected to start as well.

With that, Sarawak has the quality to out gun and bury Kuala Lumpur tomorrow night, and emerge as 2013 Premier League champions with one game in hand, and a 9 game winning streaks attached to the title.

However, all this would only be provided if Robert’s can ensure his boys keep their feet grounded,  and play to their potential.
