Sarawak’s preparations for tonight’s Malaysia Cup clash against the LionsXII were disrupted yesterday when their training session at the Jalan Besar Stadium was called off due to lightning.
The Malaysian Premier League champions were informed by the Football Association of Singapore that due to the possibility of lightning, all training had to be suspended from 5pm to 5.45pm. That left the visitors, whose allotted one hour session ended at 6pm, doing light exercises on the touchline.
Sarawak, who beat Kedah 4-0 in their last Group D outing, also declined an offer from the LionsXII to give up their 6pm to 7pm time slot.
Nonetheless, Sarawak head coach Robert Alberts has shrugged it off, insisting it will not affect their game plan as they seek to beat the LionsXII and secure a quarter-final berth.
“We are not going to put up a defensive wall tomorrow night. Three points, which would guarantee us a place in the last eight, is what we are aiming for,” said Alberts.
