The coming Malaysia Super League 2016, played without the participation of Lions XII, would kick off in the middle of February. The news was revealed via a press statement by Football Malaysia Limited Liability Partnership (FMLPP) to members of the press.
The exact date of kick off would be the 13th of February, starting with the Charity Shield, hence marking the start of the top tier football league in Malaysia.
Like previous years, the second tier of the Malaysian league would kick off a day earlier, on the 12th of February.
The number of teams in both leagues would be retained, but the late kick off would mean teams would have over a month to prepare for the new season.
