Malaysian futsal hopes rides on youngsters

The hopes and dreams of Malaysian futsal fans would rest on seven young players in the coming AFF Futsal Championship in Bangkok next month.

Malaysia national futsal coach, Chiew Chun Yong, has called seven under-22 players from across the country to his 16 strong team for the championship, namely Muhammad Azri Rahman, 22, (Felda United), Mohd Ridzwan Bakri, 22, (Sabah), Syed Aizad Daniel Syed Nasir, 20, (MPSJ), Muhammad Aidil Shahril Rosli, 19, (MPSJ), Muhammad Amirul Sugito, 19, (Kuala Lumpur), Muhammad Ikhmal Firdaus, 19, (PBMM B-19) andn Mohd Awalludin Mat Nawi, 18, (Perak).

According to Chun Yong, the move would allow him to thinker with tactics, as younger players allow him to adapt a high pressing, and high intensity game-play.

In the championship, Malaysia would meet Indonesia, Laos and Myanmar in Group B, with the national team aiming a semi-final finish this time around.

The AFF Futsal Championship would start on the 23rd of January next year.
