The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) is furious that fans are labeling the coming match up between Malaysia and Tottenham Hotspur FC (Spurs) a ‘circus’.
The game which is scheduled on 27 May has been labeled in such a way by vocal ultra groups which has thousands of fans nationwide.
In dismissing the label, FAM claims that the game against Spurs is vital to provide Malaysia’s national team exposure before they face Hong Kong on the 6 June, Timor Leste on 11 June, and Palestin on the 16 June at Stadium Nasional Bukit Jalil.
FAM added that ‘A’ class international friendlies only allow a maximum of six substitutes in the game, where as the game against Spurs would allow Dollah Salleh to utilize more substitutes, hence increasing the exposure to players against top level footballers.
The national body further explained that only two games were changed to make way for the game against Spurs, adding that a proposed friendly game against the Philippines had to be rejected as it was done after the voting ceremony of the Asia Cup 2019 qualifiers.
