The highly successful Lions XII side from Singapore was voted out of the Malaysian League last night during the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) 6th executive meeting in Kuala Lumpur.
Their spot in the Super League would be filled by either relegated ATM or third place T-Team which would have to play a one match play-off. The date of the play-off has yet to be decided.
The ruling also meant that Kuala Lumpur, placed bottom in the Premier League this year, would have their place retained in the second-tier Malaysian league as only one team would be relegated from the Super League instead of two.
FAM’s decision to boot Lions XII for the coming season has been expected as football fans under the banner of Ultras Malaya have been vocal over their displeasure of the Singapore side winning local tournaments, and given special treatment by FAM.
The side now coached by Fandi Ahmad won the FA Cup this year, and the Super League title in 2013.
