Malaysia football head coach, Kim Pan Gon today announced his immediate resignation from the team which is nicknamed Harimau Malaya.
The Korean made the announcement from a press conference which was streamed live from Wisma Persatuan Bolasepak Malaysia (FAM).
Pan Gon said that he was sad to announce that he is stepping down due to personal commitments.
“Today I have a sad and sorry message to share with everyone. Today, I have decided to step down as head coach of the Malaysian National Football Team due to my personal commitments.” said Pan Gon during the press conference.

The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) in a statement afterwards said that they have accepted Pan Gon’s decision to step down and shorten his current contract.
FAM’s statement further clarified that the decision was not taken lightly and had involved several meetings and attempts to persuade the Korean to stay on.
FAM also noted that Pan Gon had achieved great things when leading the national team, which included increasing Harimau malaya’s FIFA ranking, and bringing Malaysia into the Asia Cup after 43 years of failure.
Pan Gon’s place will be taken over by Pau Marti Vicente with the assistance of former Sarawak United head coach, E Elavarasan.
For the record, Pan Gon’s contract with Harimau Malaya was scheduled to end in December 2025.
