A press release by the Football Association of Sarawak revealed that the FA is hoping that the #BolaTanpaMercun campaign initiated by Sarawak football fans online will hit a chord among football fans in other states, prompting it to be a national campaign.
The statement says that “FAS acknowledges the ‘bola tanpa mercun’ campaign initiated by the fans through Facebook” and that “his campaign has our full support.”
The statement which quoted FAS President Datu Sudarsono also thanked the fans for the “constructive initiative”, as he hoped that such campain will help “increase awareness on safety and security in the stadium for the good of all.”
Sudarsono further said that he also hope that the “campaign will be joined by all football fans throughout Malaysia” because “we want to hear your voice in the stadium, NOT the sound of ‘mercun’ (firecrackers).”
The #BolaTanpaMercun campaign was innitiated by fans in Sarawak on 1st September 2013, and has since gained huge following ans support from local ultra groups, Sarawak FA Facebook groups, NGOs, radio stations and more. The campaigned is aimed to give awareness about playing firecrackers in the stadium during football matches, and is hoped to soon get rid of such actions during football games.
